Highlights and notes for the week

Saturday has ten of the weekend’s events, from a fossil exhibit along the trail at Ridley Creek State Park in the morning to a mummy lantern clay workshop for parents and children at Wayne Art Center in the afternoon. On Sunday the Kaiserman JCC in Wynnewood holds its fall festival from 11 AM to 3 PM, and the Main Line Art Center in Haverford holds a Halloween fundraiser with a haunted studio. Radnor Memorial Library and Easttown Library open their donated Halloween costumes to families from Friday.

  • Tredyffrin Township’s offices are closed on Monday, October 12, for Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

Newtown Square · Ridley Creek State Park, Multi-Use Trail Outdoor Classroom

A state park naturalist sets out fossils from around Pennsylvania along the trail and explains how they formed.

A Tyler educator leads families along the woodland trails with magnifying glasses to look for plants, animals and seasonal changes.

  • $18 adults, $15 seniors, $10 ages 3 to 17; members and library pass holders free
  • Pre-registration required

Moves indoors in bad weather. Includes general admission. Check in at the Visitor Center.

11 AM Film

Bryn Mawr · Bryn Mawr Film Institute

The family Saturday matinee shows the 1984 comedy about three scientists who start a ghost-catching business.

  • Recommended for ages 11 and up
  • $6 adults, $5 kids

Rated PG. The theater notes the film is racier than a PG movie made today.

Wayne · Radnor Memorial Library

To close Banned Books Week, readers check in for snacks, a free audiobook and a pin-making table, then settle in around the library to read.

2:30 to 3:30 PM Library

Havertown · Haverford Township Free Library

Children take turns reading aloud to certified therapy dogs in 10-minute sessions.

Wynnewood · Kaiserman JCC

The JCC's fall festival has bounce houses, a petting zoo, a pumpkin patch, a touch-a-truck with the Penn Wynne Fire Department, live music, crafts and food trucks.

3 to 6 PM Seasonal

Haverford · Main Line Art Center

A Halloween party with three make-and-take art projects, a haunted studio, a dance party in the gallery and painted pumpkins for sale, raising money for the center's accessible art programs.

  • All ages; the haunted studio suits ages 10 and up
  • $50 for up to 4 people; $15 each additional person

Costumes encouraged.

Weekly story times and toddler programs at the libraries stay out of the editions. They are all in Story times and weekly programs at Main Line libraries.
